Majid Abbasi: A New Academician of the RCA

Majid Abbasi has been elected as a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) and received his diploma on November 15, 2025, at a ceremony held in Montreal alongside nine other artists. At the same event, two RCA medals were awarded to Phyllis Lambert, philanthropist and architect, and Peter Jacobs, landscape architect.

The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts is an institution composed of more than 650 active artists and designers. It is the oldest national body of professional artists in Canada, founded in 1880 in conjunction with the establishment of the National Gallery of Canada.
Today’s Academy emphasizes diversity among its members and artistic disciplines. Its over 650 distinguished members work across the fields of visual arts, design, and fine crafts, including architects, landscape architects, painters, printmakers, photographers, book designers, graphic designers, industrial designers, interior designers, fashion designers, textile artists, ceramicists, sculptors, performance artists, installation artists, filmmakers, video artists, animators, type designers, metalsmiths, and media artists.
The Academy supports the achievements of Canada’s most accomplished artists and cultural figures through advocacy, awards, scholarships, donations, mentorships, publications, exhibitions, and symposia.

The mission of the Academy is to celebrate artistic excellence and innovation across Canada, to encourage new generations of artists, and to facilitate the exchange of ideas about visual culture for all Canadians.
