The Conference of Contemporary Iranian Art

Oxford University, July 2005, This conference was the first that tried to examine the concept of modern and contemporary Iranian art within an academic framework and to assess its current nature in the broader context of contemporary art. It provided an opportunity to bring together scholars and art historians both from Europe, US, Iran and elsewhere in order to discuss the existing varieties and transformations of contemporary Iranian art practice. It will discuss artistic strategies and artistic production within the context of Iran as well as of Iranian artists in the diaspora.

The design concept revolves around the first letter of ‘ART’ in Farsi, incorporating two major visual elements that symbolize different facets of art. One part is blurred, representing traditional art and its timeless essence, which has profoundly inspired contemporary artistic movements. The other part is pixelated, symbolizing the digital and modern evolution of art, showcasing its dynamic transformation in today’s world. This duality serves as the foundation for all outputs, integrating image-typography with a bold use of Futura Bold and typographic keys to reinforce the message. The design concept not only bridges the past and present but also highlights the continuous dialogue between heritage and innovation, shaping the ever-evolving artistic landscape.
